ONDC and Cybrilla Mutual Fund Solutions: Build Your Own Buyer App or Launch with MF Stack?
Planning to launch an ONDC-powered mutual fund app? Compare building your own buyer app with launching through MF Stack, powered by Cybrilla and Fintech Primitives. Discover the integration models, key requirements, and a faster route to market.
MF Stack x CybrillaMF Stack x ONDC
If you want to distribute mutual funds through ONDC, the infrastructure question is mostly settled. Cybrilla POA connects you to AMCs, and Fintech Primitives gives you the APIs to work with it. The open question is the part investors and distributors actually touch: the buyer app.
This guide looks at ONDC and Cybrilla mutual fund solutions from a practical angle: what it takes to build a buyer app yourself, what you can skip by launching with MF Stack, and how to decide.
The Stack at a Glance
Layer | What it does | Who provides it |
Buyer app: investor and distributor apps, onboarding, branding, assisted transactions | The experience your clients use | You, or MF Stack |
MF transaction APIs and compliance-aligned flows | Integration layer | Fintech Primitives |
AMC-side connectivity | Accepts orders on behalf of AMCs | Cybrilla POA |
Open network | Interoperability between buyers and sellers | ONDC |
(MF Stack)
Cybrilla POA acts as a digital branch of AMCs, and Fintech Primitives is the technical service provider layer that integrates with it (Fintech Primitives docs). According to Fintech Primitives' documentation, around 30 AMCs are listed as live on the gateway, with more about to go live (Fintech Primitives docs).
That leaves the top layer, which is yours to build or buy.
What Building Your Own Buyer App Involves
APIs are not an app. Even with Cybrilla and Fintech Primitives handling AMC connectivity, a buyer app needs:
1. Investor and distributor interfaces. Web and mobile apps with onboarding screens, scheme discovery, order flows, portfolio views, and reports.
2. Onboarding and KYC flows. KYC and account creation designed so users finish them, with consent handled correctly.
3. The order lifecycle. Each order moves through a defined sequence: it is reviewed in the background, the investor's consent is collected, payment is created, the order is submitted, and the investor completes payment. It then moves through RTA processing to a final status (Fintech Primitives docs). Your app has to represent every state clearly.
4. Payments and mandates. The gateway supports UPI, netbanking, UPI Autopay, and eNACH, and your app has to guide users through each one (Fintech Primitives docs).
5. Transaction coverage. Lumpsum, SIPs, redemptions, switches, SWPs, and STPs, each with its own screens and edge cases.
6. Distributor tooling. A dashboard, client views, and assisted transaction flows, so distributors can initiate or guide orders for clients.
7. Testing and go-live. Pre-production testing, compliance validation, call-sequence testing, and network registration (MF Stack).
8. Ongoing maintenance. Updates as protocols, AMC requirements, and regulations change, plus support for users.
None of this is exotic engineering, but it adds up to a meaningful product build before your first investor transacts.
What MF Stack Provides
MF Stack provides the full UI and app layer for distributors, wealth firms, and fintechs launching ONDC-compliant buyer apps, while Fintech Primitives, an authorised Cybrilla POA partner, handles the ONDC-compliant API integration (MF Stack).
- A branded buyer app on web and mobile, with onboarding and KYC, SIP and bulk SIP, switch and STP, redemption and SWP, and holding reports
- Distributor tools, including web and mobile apps and an Investor DIT app for assisted, distributor-initiated transactions
- White-label branding, so investors see your brand
- Support through ONDC onboarding, including testing, validation, and go-live readiness
- Flexibility, because the same journeys work inside or outside ONDC
MF Stack is software for distributors and fintechs and does not allow direct investment, so the distributor remains the service provider to the investor.
Build vs Launch with MF Stack
Build your own buyer app | Launch with MF Stack | |
Investor and distributor apps | You design and develop | Ready-built, white-labelled |
Onboarding and order flows | You build and test | Included |
ONDC integration | You integrate with Fintech Primitives directly | Handled through Fintech Primitives |
Testing and go-live support | Your team coordinates | Supported |
Maintenance | Your team | MF Stack |
Design control | Full | High on branding, within the platform |
Best for | Teams with engineers and a unique product vision | Distributors, wealth firms, and fintechs that want to launch faster |
Who Should Build, and Who Should Launch
Build if you have a capable engineering team, your investing experience is central to your product, and you want full control over every screen.
Launch with MF Stack if you are a distributor, wealth firm, or fintech that wants an ONDC-ready, branded app without spending months on the build, or if mutual funds are one part of a larger business and you'd rather focus engineering elsewhere.
Many teams start with a ready platform and customise from there, rather than starting from a blank page.
What to Plan For on the Cybrilla Route
- Registrations and empanelment. You need an ARN, which requires NISM Series V-A certification and the KYD process (AMFI), and empanelment with the AMCs you want to offer.
- Onboarding with Cybrilla. HSBC's FAQ says MFDs complete onboarding with Cybrilla and integrate their portal; if empanelled with the AMC, its schemes are then enabled (HSBC Mutual Fund FAQ).
- Payments in Cybrilla's name. Investors will see "Cybrilla" in UPI authorisations and bank statements, so tell them upfront (Fintech Primitives docs).
- Existing folios. Redemptions through the gateway are supported only for folios created through it (Fintech Primitives docs).
- Supported investors. Resident individuals and NRIs are supported, and some capabilities are limited or in beta (Fintech Primitives docs).
How to Get Started
- Confirm your ARN and the AMCs you want to distribute.
- Decide whether to build or launch with a ready platform.
- Complete onboarding with Cybrilla and agree your app route.
- Configure your branding and journeys.
- Test end to end, including a live SIP and a redemption.
- Go live, and iterate based on real usage.
The Bottom Line
ONDC and Cybrilla solve the connection to AMCs. The buyer app is the part that determines whether investors and distributors enjoy using what you launch. You can build it, or you can launch on a platform that already has it.
